
Police are investigating after suspects in stolen cars broke into vehicles in Niantic to steal items. On Monday night a security guard at Camp Nett notified officers that cars were being broken into near the intersection of York Avenue and Smith Street. No arrests have been made at this time.
Yesterday, during the trial of 47 year old Carlton Henderson, the 15 year old son of the murder victim testified. 41 year old Brandia Irvin’s son said he watched Henderson stab his mother and cut her neck with a knife at a Pawcatuck residence in November 2019 when he was 12 years old. Henderson faces 70 years in jail if convicted.
Mystic’s Memorial Day Parade will be happening on Monday. The Police Chief gave the Mystic VFW the green light to hold the event. It had been previously cancelled due to a paperwork deadline being missed. The event is scheduled to start in downtown Mystic at 2:00p.m.
A Stonington man was sentenced to five years in prison yesterday after pleading guilty to charges of soliciting child pornography in February. 29 year old Matthew X Smith will also serve five years of supervised release. He is expected to report to prison June 26th.
Yesterday Special Olympics Rhode Island announced that its summer games are returning to URI next month. This is the first time since the pandemic that the three day games will be held. They are scheduled to take place June 2nd-June 4th.
