The New York Jets are parting ways with their general manager Joe Douglas, following the team’s disappointing 3-8 start.  The move comes 2 days after the Jets 28-27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and shorty after firing head coach Robert Saleh last month.  Phil Savage will be serving as the interim general manager.

Douglas was in the final year of his contract with the Jets; with whom he has been since 2019. During his time in New York as GM, the Jets went 30-64.

Jets owner Woody Johnson released a statement on his decision: “Today, I informed Joe Douglas he will no longer serve as the General Manager of the New York Jets. I want to thank Joe for his commitment to the Jets over the last six years and wish him and his family the best moving forward. Phil Savage will be the Interim General Manager for the remainder of the season. We will begin the process to identify a new General Manager immediately.”

Douglas, 48, broke into the NFL as a scout with the Baltimore Ravens in 2000. He served as the director of college scouting for the Chicago Bears in 2015, and was the Philadelphia Eagles’ vice president of player personnel for four years.
