Quarterback Aaron Rodgers walks on Qwest Field after winning a football game August 21^ 2010 in Seattle^ Washington.

ESPN reports that the Minnesota Vikings are no longer interesting in pursuing discussions with free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

NFL Media reported Wednesday that the Vikings are standing by 2024 first-round draft pick J.J. McCarthy as their signal-caller for 2025. Per NFL Media: “The #Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say. The team plans to add a veteran. But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time. McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1.”

The move comes just days after The Athletic had reported that the Vikings were discussing the possibility of pursuing Rodgers (after he had made it clear he preferred to sign with them.) However, sources now described the possibility of Rodgers joining the team as “non-zero.”

It leaves second-year player J.J. McCarthy atop the quarterback depth chart, who has recovered from surgery in August to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee, an injury that forced him to miss his entire rookie season.

The New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers are the other two teams that have been interested in Rodgers, barring a retirement at age 41 (which he has been said to be considering.)
