NHL Playoffs: Hurricanes defeat Capitals in OT; Oilers rally to beat Golden Knights

The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Washington Capitals with a 2-1 overtime win in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series on Tuesday night.

Jaccob Slavin scored the winning goal just three minutes into overtime, with Frederik Andersen making 13 saves in his return from injury.

Game 2 between the Hurricanes and Capitals is scheduled for Thursday night in Washington.

The Edmonton Oilers rallied in the third period to beat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in Game 1 of the Western Conference Second Round at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday.

Zach Hyman scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period for the Oilers, to make it 3-2 16:58, with Connor Brown then making it 4-2 just a few minutes later at 18:14. Leon Draisaitl also scored in the third, with Calvin Pickard making 15 saves for the Oilers.

Game 2 will take place at Vegas on Thursday.
