The Minnesota Wild’s pursuit of the Stanley Cup hit another snag Tuesday night, as the Colorado Avalanche secured a 5-2 victory to take a 2-0 lead in their second-round playoff matchup.

Colorado struck first just under three minutes in, but Kirill Kaprizov answered almost instantly, tying the game a mere six seconds later—one of the fastest back-to-back goals by opposing teams in playoff history. Despite that quick response, the Avalanche regained momentum and never relinquished it, building a lead early in the second period and steadily pulling away.

Nathan MacKinnon played a central role, scoring once and adding two assists, including a milestone-setting performance that moved him past Joe Sakic for the most multipoint playoff periods in franchise history. Goals from Martin Necas, Gabriel Landeskog, and Nicolas Roy—each their first of the series—added to Colorado’s depth scoring, while Valeri Nichushkin sealed the win with an empty-net goal.

Minnesota had turned to Filip Gustavsson in goal, after Jesper Wallstedt surrendered eight goals in Game 1. Gustavsson struggled early, allowing goals on the first two shots he faced and another at the start of the second period, though he recovered to finish with 18 saves. At the other end, Scott Wedgewood stood firm with 29 saves despite taking contact and a puck to the mask during the game.

The Avalanche have now won six straight playoff games, matching a franchise-best start, and historically hold a strong edge in series when opening with two wins. Meanwhile, Minnesota—coming off a first-round victory over the Dallas Stars—will look to regroup as the series shifts to home ice for Game 3, now facing the pressure of avoiding a deeper deficit.
